I can’t seem to save any activity. The button depresses, but the page isn’t updated.
I also can’t analyse any past activity. The historical training data appears to have been wiped???

Hi Paul
We will try and sort it out. Historical data has not been wiped and we have backups but there sounds like an error somewhere. Are you able to see your routes?

Hi,
Yes, I can see all my routes. I can also create, copy, edit and delete them.
My recent activity is blank (just the header) and if I select a route to analyse past activity with a date range, nothing appears.
Thanks,
Paul

I was not very impressed by your last attempt but have revisited your site and am impressed by your improvements , so I have now bookmarked you . I am a walker and a cyclist so I hope you are working on including footpath/cycle routes on the maps

Altitude has been a bit temperamental since the new site started but seems to be working now at our end. Is it working with you now?

The maps themselves come from Google and so we do not have control on what appears on them. We are trying to build a good database of other people’s routes that you can find via the Search Engine and we are exploring ways of showing the popular ones easily.

Hello James. Like the look & feel of the new site. Well done.
One Q: Would it be possible at some stage to add a new field to automatically provide and record the average speed for each activity?

I like the idea of the follow roads – took me a while to get the hang of it!! We have a new bridge just recently opened in our city and was wondering when it will be featured on your maps. ATM its a guessing game as to where it is when plotting runs!!

@Diane,
The maps are googlemaps, so are out of the hands of mapometer.

As I’ve got fitter, I’ve increased the laps around my park, but I’ve had to create new routes each time and save them as “#Park x 2″, “#Park x 4″ etc.
Would it be possible to include “Laps” in the activity?
Calculating activity would be a case of Distance x Laps? And for historical activity would be Distance x1?
I’d also be able to clear a lot of my route list (after editing activity to recalculate)!
I’d be surprised if I was the first one to suggest it.

hi Paul
You are the first to suggest it I think. We will certainly add it to the list. In the meantime, as you know the distance of the laps, it might be easier to log as a Gym session.

Hi Mike
Will add to the list. I assume you are aware that you can get this already from the graph and if you hover your mouse over the bars in the chart it will show the actual figure but it won’t show automatically.

We get the maps from Google. They do frequently update the maps but I’m not sure when they will change the one in your area.
Thanks

Awful….sorry, but the old website and system was far easier to use than the new one. I really am finding the new one almost impossible to use. Please revert to the old one.

hi
In what way is it harder to use? I just want to make sure it is displaying correctly. I can understand that if you are used to doing something a certain way then it is harder at first but we think overall it should be easier once you have got used to it. If you could let me know specifically what is causing problems that would be great.

I always use your site, however after the update I now can’t plot along routes where I know there is a path. I live near a river and regularly run along the river, however the paths I run along do not show on Google maps. Despite this, I have always been able to plot my route along the river on Mapometer but now it just won’t let me, it will only let me plot along major paths and roads which is not where I run. I have tried to see if anyone else has had the same problem but I haven’t found anything, however apologies if this is a duplicate. I feel a bit lost not being able to plot my route and distance incorporating the paths along the river!

Hi
The solution is simple. Press the “Don’t follow” button on the left hand side of the screen. If that doesn’t work let me know. James

Hi, I think you have the site confused with another as we don’t have that functionality at present. It is high on the list though.

Excellent work on the new skin, looks much nicer. Buttonising everything seems to have allowed people to find functions that already existed under the old skin (follow roads for example) so clearly the new UI is easier to use.
While I know I can get it from hovering on the graph having set it to chart by day, I’d love to see Pace included in the Activity summary in the right hand column (i.e. – 4.16 miles in 0:34:35 (8:18min/mile)) Useful anyway and necessary if you have more than one activity per day as chart by day wouldn’t break down enough to see that information, though that could also be addresses by a “chart by Activity” option…
Thanks for a great site and service.

Thanks for the suggestion. We are trying to keep it clean and simple but I think it would be good if users could customise their own training logs via the preferences and this is definitely something we will look at.

Several people have commented about the usefulness of base layer maps which include footpaths etc. OpenStreetMap has this mapping for much of the world, and the maps are generally better quality than google’s. Of course it doesn’t have aerial imagery.
My suggestion: It would be useful if it were possible to alternate the base map layer providers between say google and OpenStreetMap, altough I have a feeling that this would require an enormous alteration to how the underlying site works – dealing with two separate APIs

I see that you have a request above for adding a field containing average speed for each activity each day. I already requested this feature a while ago. When you are training for a sporting event the average speed you gain each day is very imporatant. I shows how you are making progress or not. Please, please add this feature!

Uploaded a 260 kilometer bike route and tried to edit a bit, but the script was so slow nothing really happened. Is this normal, or was there a problem on the servers at around 12:45 pm UK time?

The system does slow down considerably when longer routes are entered, particularly when “Follow Roads” is selected as it plots many more points which all have to be remembered at the same time. Turning distance markers off as well will speed it up considerably.

Big fan of your site – I like the style change, looks nice…but a real pain is that now if I type London, or a UK postcode, into the search box, not much happens. My view remains super high up, requiring half a dozen clicks or more to get down to an actual useful view.
The old site used to zoom straight in after search to a level you could start thinking about plotting a route.
I’ve tried Firefox, Chrome – no difference, nor if I’m logged in or not.
Might sound petty, but it’s super irritating – I’ve looked for alternatives as a result. Hoping you can fix though.

I’ve used your new site and I’m finding it much slower than previous, especially if I want to use the satellite or hybrid views.
When I print out my runs, whereas previously it used to print on one page, it now prints the route on one page, but produces a part of the map on a second page. Also, even though I can see the distance markers on the screen, it is not printing these out – not sure why, but I’d really appreciate it if it could again.

Here is an update on this. I didn’t realise this was happening to everyone as when have zoomed in already and then go to a different location it keeps the same zoom level. We will change this back to how it used to be. In the meantime it would be worth setting up a default location and zoom level in your preferences and then you won’t have a problem.

We haven’t noticed any speed issues this end. If anything it should be a bit quicker as we have improved the code. Hopefully that is down your internet service provider but keep us posted if it persists. The maps themselves come from Google’s servers which our outside our control. The page size is optimised for A4. It might be that your browser print settings need to be changed. The distance markers looks like a bug in the system that we hadn’t noticed so thanks for pointing that out.

Hi, I love your site. Will you ever make is so it’s possible to continuously draw routes (I.e. With my finger or with a drawing device on my iPad) instead of having to plot individual waypoints? This would seem to make the user experience more fluid. Thanks. Tom

Love this site, use it daily, but I have a problem with viewing, copying or editing routes, where the file won’t load, and the site simply hangs until I stop it. Is there an optimal browser to use? I’m working in IE and Firefox, and get the same problem with both, and it’s quite frustrating/time-consuming!

Hi Tom
Any interesting thought and it would make sense on the iPad. The only problem I suppose would be that you would have to switch from one tool the the other in order change the position of the map whereas you don’t using the current method. We will look into it though.

Hi. The energy expended calculator is incorrect by 1000x. The result returned for both calories and joules is 1000x less than the true estimate. The labels should read kJ and kCal to correct this.
You should probably also make it clear that the result is only an estimate, and does not include the cost of basal metabolism (i.e. is additional to BMR).
Thanks.
Bart.

Coordinates search does not work properly.
For instance -29.261167,-70.731333 does not centre on La Silla Observatory, Northern Chile, as it should be. Instead a “close” (40 km?) road to Los Moros is displayed with the queried point not on the map.
Google maps does it well. I presume that mapometer centres on the first direction listed by google maps (which happens to be Los Moros), not on the coordinates themselves.
This may be problematic for trail runners
