Maps update to site. Let us know if you have any problems.

Posted by mapometer

We are rolling out a big update to the site over the next few days.  Much of the work is under the hood stuff and, for the more technically minded, involves an upgrade to Google Maps Version 3.  This will enable all sorts of future functionality but there are a few features you will notice immediately.

1.  iPads and iPhones will work again!!  They haven’t been since Apple releasied iOS5 but they will now.

2.  The Search will engine runs at lightening speed.  Previously it has been a little on the slow site particularly in popular areas.

3.  We’ve introduced a way to change the colour, thickness and shade of the route via My Account / Preferences.

We have tested the changes but, as with all upgrades, we would be grateful if you could email info@mapometer.com if you experience any problems.  Mapometer.com continues to be free and we feel this important upgrade  will help in our aim to be the best site for measuring your routes and managing your training logs.

  1. Greetings

I signed up recently to participate in the big cycle challenge in Hemel Hempstead. All my routes, last week worked Perfectly. My Sunday walk on the canal doesn’t work when uploaded. When loading in the past, the screen would show the entire route, now it opens the last view. Scrolling to where I walked, I found that other routes are present but mine is not.

Loading the .kml file from the same source into Google earth shows the route I walked perfectly.

Please fix it, I really appreciate how well your site works, more specifically compared to Google.

  2. Hi, Thanks for pointing all this out. We’ve made some further changes now and we think we have fixed the problems. Could you let us know if any of it continues?

  3. Since the update I can’t seem to import GPX files exported from Runkeeper. It used to work great, but now it fails silently — I select the file and click “Import” and the map goes back to the default with no route present. It’s very dispiriting :(

I haven’t tried with other GPX files — perhaps it’s something with Runkeeper — but as I said, it used to work wonderfully (and I used it to get proper altitude measurements, since Runkeeper’s doesn’t work for anything).

  4. Hi. We made some further changes late yesterday. Has that made a difference?

  5. Hi, is anyone else having problems with editing their routes?

I am mapping a journey, and since the upgrades, haven’t been able to edit my route.

To start again from scratch, every time I want to add a little bit more to my route is going to be far too time-consuming.

Is it just me – or are there others with the same problem?

    Vanessa

  6. Hi Vanessa

This isn’t a problem we are experiencing. Are you using the Edit button from the list of routes? Could you email info@mapometer.com with your operating system and browser you are using? THanks
