Circleville Park: 200 Little Lion Drive, State College, United States
Eleven years ago, Jamie Barbarich Covol, a beloved local wife, mother and Autistic Support Teacher at Mt. Nittany Elementary School was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Jamie and her family have found out the tumor is again growing, altering the everyday life of her family. Through it all, Jamie inspires and encourages those around her. Jamie says, "I am happy to fight and I will continue to fight every day. I am so blessed and lucky to be alive and I remember that every day. While I know that they can never get this whole tumor I am hopeful that one day they will find a way to stop it in its tracks forever. Until then, I will continue to enjoy every minute I get with my children. I only hope I can make a difference in this world and leave it a better place.”
Nearly 700,000 Americans are currently living with a brain tumor with another 69,000 likely to be diagnosed in the next year. There is currently no cure and limited treatment options. Brain tumors greatly impact the quality of life of those they affect and their loved ones, including those of us whose lives have been touched by Jamie.
For the past few years, Jamie and her family and friends have participated in the “Race for Hope” in Philadelphia. Inspired by Jamie’s commitment to fighting her tumor with grace and positivity, Team Snap will be holding their fourth annual 5k to raise money to support the National Brain Tumor Society. This local race not only raises awareness and funds, but also inspires everyone to see the strength and power we hold when we support each other as we show her sons how much we, as a community, support Jamie and her family in her fight against her brain tumor. This year’s race will be held Sunday, September 24th at Circleville Park.
