The Brenda Owens Memorial Wellness 5K Walk/Run promotes an active and healthy lifestyle among residents living in the Greater New Orleans community. This 5K was created to bring awareness to lung disease and to honor the life and legacy of Brenda H. Owens a champion of health and wellness and a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
The 5th annual walk run will take place on May 19th, 2018, in the Lower 9th ward.(resecheduled from 4/7) This 5K will start at the Andrew P. Sanchez Community Center. As New Orleans celebrates its tricentennial you will have the opportunity to see one of the oldest and most historic neighborhoods of the city. The route will take you through newly renovated streets and along streets still effected by Hurricane Katrina. Finish the last half mile running past the infamous local grocery store with a live brass band motivating you to cross the finish line. The event also includes a pre-race warm up, a community health expo with screenings and an after-race party complete with live music.
Proceeds from the race will be donated to the American Lung Association’s New Orleans chapter. Lung disease is the #1 cancer killier of African Americans.
This event is sponsored by the Alpha Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The chapter has more than 200 active members and provides thousands of hours of community service and financial support to the local communities that need it the most.

Wear comforatable shoes and clothes. Ensure you have completed the waiver on line or you will be asked to complete the waiver on site.
