Qujing is the second-largest city in Yunnan Province. Founded in Qin Dynasty (BC 221-207), it also has a long history and deep culture. In an area of 130 square kilometers, Qujing has 6.34 million people and eight ethnic groups (namely Han, Yi, Hui, Zhuang, Boyi, Miao, Shui, and Yao) sharing the beautiful land. Qujing is also the birthplace of Ancient Cuan civilization.

The landscape of the region features beautiful hills and mountains, and is a very important strategic position of Yunnan Province. Qujing is sub-tropical monsoon climate; summer is not too hot while winter is not too cold. (The annual average temperature is 14.5℃). With its beautiful scenery, fresh air and water, Qujing is often touted as being one of the cleanest cities in China. It has also been named one of China's Top 10 Most Livable Cities for many years. Key tourist attractions include Jiulong Waterfall (Nine Dragons Waterfall), and Tiansheng Cave.

IRONMAN 70.3 Qujing will begin with a swim in the Qujing Triathlon Sports Park reservoir. After completing the swim, athletes will transition lakeside then use 320 National road descending east into the city to start 2.25 loops cycling. After that, athletes will go into T2 at the Qujing Sports Culture Park.

The run is a 2 loops around the Zhujiangyuan Avenue. As athletes follow the course they will have a chance to see the beauty of Qujing’s old world architecture in contrast to the sleek modern designs of the sports arenas. At the end of their last loop, athletes will get to celebrate the day's accomplishments at the finish line on the plaza between the brand new soccer and basketball stadiums.

The 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 Qujing will have 25 qualifying slots  for the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship and 50 qualifying slots for the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship available.

Eligible athletes receiving a slot can either accept a slot to the IRONMAN World Championship or a slot to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship (but not both).
