Midland City Forest: 2840 E Monroe Rd, Midland, United States
Join TriToFinish in collaboration with organizers of the MUTT Series of races and the Bay City Morning Rotary Driathlon are bringing back the second annual Red Moon Trail Run!
The Red moon – or Sturgeon moon is a traditional name for the full moon that occurs in August and was named by Native American fishing tribes who knew that sturgeon in the Great Lakes were most easily caught under it.
The Race: This year’s race has changed locations and is now at the same site as the popular Snow Moon Trail Run! Come out to Midland City Forest in Midland, MI as runners embark on a 5k, 15k or 25k race along wide trails (not single track). Runners completing multiple laps will run through a chute located directly inside a 3,200 square foot event tent. Finish early or spectating? Feel free to bring and enjoy an adult beverage while cheering on those crushing the warm night run as they run past you through the tent.
Note: Registration for this event is limited to just 400 participants, so sign up early!
Date: August 11, 2018
Start Time: 9:00 PM
Location: Midland City Forest
Address: 2840 E Monroe Rd, Midland, MI 48640
The Red Moon Run will take place in Midland’s City Forest on flat, wide-track trails and mountain bike trails. The course will be marked with small LED lights to assist with trail navigation. The race is composed of a 5k trail course with runners able to choose from 1, 3, or 5 lap options. If you are opting for multiple laps, you’ll enjoy cheer from those in the tent as you run directly through a 3,200 square foot event tent. This race has one “aid” station manned by enthusiastic volunteers with hydration and snacks that participants will pass twice on each loop of the course.
NOTE: Active.com charges a nominal fee to participants when registering. We just don’t want you to be surprised when you go to register online!
T-shirts and for this event are shown as available at added cost and must be ordered through registration by Friday, August 3rd. The reality is that we just don't want to make those who don’t wear t-shirts pay for them – so they are running for less.
These shirts will be a cotton blend and of better quality than most event shirts. They will be available in unisex or ladies cut. Ladies! Please be aware that ladies cut shirts are SMALLER and more form fitting than the standard unisex shirts. Take that into account when ordering. See “Additional Purchases Available” section below for details on cost and sizing.
Participants will also receive a custom Red Moon Trail Run finisher medal as well as FREE professional race photo, custom race bib and professional chip timing.
Many participants have asked to opt out of purchasing a t-shirt and receiving registration at a lower rate. For this event, we have standardized the lower rate for ALL participants. Purchasing an event t-shirt is now an option - at the bargain price of $5 when registering online (hey – they cost us more than $8 each to have them made).
For those who don’t register in time, a limited number of Red Moon Trail Run t-shirts in unknown sizes will be available race day for $10 each. Don’t take the chance. Buy yours when registering online! Sizes available:
*Note: Please keep in mind that Ladies Cut shirts generally run smaller than standard unisex t-shirts as they are designed to be somewhat form fitting. Participants will receive the size and type shirts ordered. Exchanges may be unavailable.
NOTE: There will be no age group awards for this race, though ALL participants will receive a high quality finisher medal at the finish line upon completion of their event!
Interested in volunteering? Events like this can’t be successful without great volunteers! Sign up at the link at the top of this page and we’ll be in touch. All volunteers receive a cool, TriToFinish logo’d tech t-shirt courtesy of ATS Printing in Bay City, MI!
Can I drink beer or wine in the tent?
Yes, Midland City Park allows open adult beverage containers in non-glass containers. Bring your own. Just don’t bring glass bottles. And know your limits. Please don’t drink and drive.
Will there be age group awards for this event?
Unfortunately, no. Overall awards will be provided to the top 3 male and female participants in each event. Results will be broken down by age group and submitted to USA Track & Field, but age group awards will not be available for this race.
Can I bring my dog to this race?
Only if your dog…
a) Doesn’t bite
b) Is used to running trails at night
c) Is tent trained (We don’t want to step in poo)
Do I need a head lamp or running light?
YES. You definitely will need one to see what you're running on. Trail races by nature require greater attention to where one steps. Darkness increases the need to be more aware of your footing. We recommend you visit our friends/partners at Runners Athletic Company Stores in Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, and Mount Pleasant to find the best available options!
Will the trail be lit or marked?
The trail will not be lit. However, there WILL be LED lights and course markings to guide runners through the course. If you have your headlamp or run light, you should have no problem seeing the signs. ;)
Will there be an aid/water station on the course?
Yes. There will be a water station at about .75 miles (at the bridge) that runners will pass twice on each lap. This station will also have sports drink, gels and other carbs for those running the longer distances.
Do I need special running shoes for this race?
Not necessarily, though trail specific shoes would help tremendously in keeping your footing on this course. We recommend you visit our friends/partners at Runners Athletic Stores in Midland, Saginaw, Bay City, and Mt Pleasant to find the best available options!
Can I walk or ruck instead of run?
Absolutely. We ask that you sign up ONLY for the 1 Lap 5k or the 3 Lap 15k races and that you remain to the side of the trail and out of the path of runners if you choose to walk or ruck though.
We completely understand that plans change and athletes will sometimes be unable to compete in an event they've signed up for. Unfortunately, refunds will not be provided for any event unless the event is cancelled for reasons within our control. Dangerous weather, natural disasters, and local emergencies are examples of reasons an event may be cancelled that are NOT within our control.
Should an athlete have an injury or other medical issue keeping them from competing in an event they've registered for, we would be happy to transfer their registration to a similar TriToFinish-owned event up to and including the same event the following season. A doctor's slip may be required as proof of injury or ailment. Failure to provide proof if requested will result in non-transfer of the event.
Transferring registrations to other athletes is NOT allowed.
