The race will start at the Marina at Thousand Hills State Park (the flag pole marks the start), and follow the paved road for about 1.5 miles. This is the only paved portion of the event, and is necessary to allow racers to spread out before entering the singletrack. After taking a left onto Thousand Hills Trail, racers will navigate the twists and turns, ups and downs, rocks, roots, and trees for approximately 11 miles. There are a few stream crossings, and inevitably there will be mud in spots. The trail will exit onto Rainbow Basin Trail (County Road 226), where racers will follow a gravel road for the final half-mile into Jackson Stables. There will be mile markers every half mile of the trail.
There will be 7 aid stations on the course, at slightly irregular intervals.
#1) Mile 1.5 #5) Mile 9.6
#2) Mile 3.2 #6) Mile 11.3
#3) Mile 5.2 #7) Mile 12.5
#4) Mile 7.7
All runners are encouraged to carry some calories and/or a hydration system or bottles which can be refilled at each stop. Water, sports drink, snacks, and gels will be provided along the course.
The finish line will have water, sports drink, soft drinks, pizza, and snacks, along with complimentary wine tasting.
The cutoff for an official finish time will be 12:30 p.m., but all athletes will be allowed to complete the course if they so choose.
All proceeds to support the Forest Lake Area Trail System.
Pre-race packet pickup will be held on Friday, October 27th at the Thompson Campus Center (210 S. Osteopathy, Kirksville, MO, 63501) from noon until 9:00 p.m and again race morning at the Marina beginning at 7:00 a.m.
The race starts Saturday, October 28th at 8:30 a.m. - Race day packet pickup will begin at 7:00 a.m. AT THE STARTING LINE!!! The first shuttle will leave the finish line area between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m. If you still need to pick up your packet AND you need to ride the shuttle, please be aware that your packet will be waiting for you at the starting line when the shuttle drops you off.
There is also a gear-drop for warm ups and personal belongings that will deliver one bag per person to the finish line from the starting line. We discourage placing any valuables in your gear bag - just what you need to warm up/eat/drink/etc. Racers are welcome (and encouraged) to use their packet pickup bag as their gear-drop bag.
We run rain or shine! In case of inclement weather, management reserves the right to delay the start or cancel/alter/modify the race/course for the safety of runners or volunteers. This is a fundraiser and there can be no refunds if the event is modified or canceled, whether to protect runners/volunteers or due to forces beyond the control of the race directors.
