A colourful, exciting and competitive challenge that has been a part of Chinese culture for over
About the Event
Teams go head-to-head in long boats decorated with magnificent dragon figureheads. It’s a test of
teamwork and concentration as well as a physical challenge, and it’s a lot of fun. There’s a great
atmosphere too, as family and friends line the shores and cheer on the teams. Enthusiasm is
essential, but experience is not, as you will be given all the coaching you need, you must be confident in water whilst wearing a buoyancy aid & light clothing.
Each boat accommodates 17 people (16 paddlers plus the drummer). In addition you can have a
further three reserves in your team if you wish to rotate between heats and more importantly to help fundraise! (You can also take part if you can’t quite get a team of 17 together, but we do recommend a minimum of around eight people).
The minimum sponsorship per team is £750.
Awards - There will be trophies for the Winning Team in racing time, and also trophies for the 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th combined fundraising and racing times! points are awarded for both team fundraising £ amounts and your teams’ position/racing times through the day to work out these top 4 teams! Also there will be awards for the highest individual fundraiser of the event; highest fundraising team and The Best Team Spirit team!
By taking part in this event you will be raising vital funds for The Royal British Legion,
supporting the Armed Forces Community through life.
