HIP HOP FESTIVAL

About The Expo

Hip-hop culture is everywhere. Since the late ‘90s, its popularity has spread like wildfire into all corners of the world, and people can’t get enough of it. They aren’t just consumers, either; they live and breathe the culture, and they’re some of the most talented people without an outlet to share their passion. The Hip Hop Film Festival in New York City flips the script by screening films from filmmakers who grew up with and embody the culture.

Film Screenings

Held at the National Black Theatre over the course of four days, the Hip Hop Film Festival features over 65 wickedly talented independent filmmakers from the United States, the UK, France, China, Japan, India, South Africa and many other countries around the globe. These champions of hip-hop culture tell their stories through visually compelling pieces that don’t always have anything to do with hip-hop. You’ll see a wide variety of films spanning all genres, each one telling a unique story that hasn’t been done to death by your average Hollywood filmmaker. Snag a seat during any screening and prepare to be blown away by their powerful storytelling and insane attention to detail. Whether you’re a film enthusiast or a casual observer looking for something you won’t see at your local theater, you can’t go wrong here. And best of all, festival profits are shared with the filmmakers chosen to participate.

After the Credits

When the movie’s over, there’s a lot more for you to do. The HHFF TechZibit is a 3,000-square-foot virtual tech lounge featuring VR films and a host of interactive activities. There’s also a series of discussions called Master Cyphers, where Hollywood insiders offer tips on funding films, negotiating distribution deals and many other intriguing topics to fuel your success in the industry. If you’re in party kind of mood, the Art After Dark Nightly After-Parties brings jaw-dropping fashion and a lineup of the hottest hip-hop, rock and R&B artists to the stage.
