Description

Mud Monsters Run is an award winning race that has three different distances for you to pick from – 5km, 10km or 20km (double lap). Whichever you choose you will be taken on an amazing muddy journey across muddy fields, up steep hills, through woods, washing off in river crossings, navigating through mud craters, fighting your way through deep muddy bogs, with up to 130+ obstacles and many more muddy surprises along the way.

Our runs take place throughout the year at our permanent site in the beautiful Sussex Countryside just 5 minutes from the centre of East Grinstead (RH19 4RR – see below for full address and map). The start waves begin at 10:00am and go every 15 minutes until early afternoon.

The great thing is we have so many obstacles that you never have to run very far before taking on a new and exciting obstacle challenge. We welcome people of all abilities and experience, whether you regularly compete in obstacle races or are thinking of making this your first one, just pick the distance that is right for you. We are a friendly run that offers encouragement and positivity not punishments, we want everyone to have loads of fun and achieve personal goals along the way, whether it’s beating a previous time, completing the monkey bars, scaling the vertical wall or working as a team to get around the course together.

If you are after a tough OCR then the 20km route is for you, we regularly see the 20km claim many a seasoned OCR runner, will you be victorious or will our energy sapping, shoe sucking, legendary mud get the better of you...!?!

We offer onsite camping the night before our runs for just £5 per tent (cash on the day)

Anyone from the age of 13+ can run, please note 13-15 years olds must run with an adult at all times, the maximum distance they can participate in is 10km and they must register for a start wave from 11:15am or later.

Every runner gets a FREE medal, FREE Key/small bag drop and it is also FREE for spectators to come along on the day. PLUS all runners will also get FREE photos!

The Mud Monsters Run takes place at our beautiful site in East Grinstead.

Look out for the road signs as you get closer to the venue.

BE PREPARED FOR RACE DAY
Registration opens from 8.45am on race day. Please arrive at the venue at least 1 hour before your start time to allow for any potential parking and registration line-ups. You will be given your race number and wristband once you have registered.

If you haven’t signed it online please bring your signed Race Liability Waiver. All runners must bring photo ID or a scan/photo copy of photo ID on the day to collect registration packs.

Can’t print your Waiver?  DON’T WORRY!  You can sign a Race Liability Waiver on site.

SPECTATORS - There is free entry for all spectators and we welcome you to bring all your friends and family to support you.

We have full catering facilities offering both hot and cold food and drinks throughout the day so make sure you bring cash with you.  There will also be a bar on site where you can purchase a much needed post race beverage.
Please do not bring any of the following to the race site:
- Alcohol
- BBQs
- Glass containers/bottles

Dogs must remain on a lead at all times.
This is our own site and we respect it greatly, we ask for the support of our spectators, and racers to do the same and keep the site and parking areas clean. There will be plenty of rubbish bins on site please use these or take any rubbish home with you.
PARKING
There will be parking on site on the day, this will be free but will be marshalled by a charity for whom a donation would be greatly appreciated.
BAG DROP
There will be a bag drop facility on site, please only bring your bag to be checked in once you have signed in and been assigned a race number. Items must fit in our bag drop bags, these items can be left for free. Any larger items can be left but will incur a cost of £3 (this money will go to the charity who will be volunteering here on the day).  

We are providing a number of services for free in the hope that you will instead donate the cash you would have spent on these services to our chosen charities – who are helping out on the day.

CAMPING
If you want to camp on the night before we offer camping on site for £5 per tent, which we will collect on the day. The gate will be open between 5pm and 9.30pm the night before, and campers must bring their own tent and equipment, this will not be provided. The address for camping is the same as the run site – Mud Monsters, Stuart Way, East Grinstead, West Sussex, RH19 4RR.

FINISHERS MEDALS
When you sign in you will be given a wrist band to show whether you are running in the 5km, 10km or 20km race. Ensure you keep hold of this as you will need this when you cross the finish line in order to get all your finishers goodies which will include a medal, bottle of drink and other goodies.

FOOD AND DRINK
There will be catering facilities available throughout the day with hot and cold snacks and various drinks available. We will only be able to accept cash so make sure you bring enough with you.

PRE RACE WARM UP

The pre race warm up will be provided for each wave so please ensure you only take part in the relevant waves warm up. Everyone must attend the warm up as it includes a short health and safety briefing to ensure your safety during the run. It will also make sure you are properly warmed up and ready to go, the warm up will last approximately 10 minutes, once the warm up has finished there will be a countdown then it will be time to go!

HYDRATION
Dehydration is one of the most common causes for not completing races. We highly advise all racers to drink fluids before, during and after the race.
There will be free water hydration stations placed throughout the course and every runner will receive a free bottle of drink when finishing.

POST RACE

Bring a plastic bag and change of dry clothing, shoes, wipes, and towel. There will be an outdoor cold water shower station available.  

WHAT TO WEAR

It would be ideal to wear cross country, trail or fell running shoes which have grippy soles, moulded football boots have also been recommended in the past. Normal trainers are not ideal, however you will still get round but it might be a bit slippery.  Shoes that might be dangerous will not be allowed, there will be NO spikes allowed on the day our officials will be checking footwear on the day and if they are deemed to be dangerous you will not be allowed to run. Also you will not be allowed to run in barefeet at any time.   

We recommend that you wear lightweight clothes that will dry quickly, even if it’s cold as heavy or thick clothing will retain the water and not only weigh you down but also make you colder.  Long sleeve and bottoms might help protect you from scratches.  It’s also a good idea to bring a change of clothes with you so you can relax and enjoy yourself in some clean clothes after you’ve run.
