Make your miles matter and run to benefit the Scott Carter Foundation! We are thrilled to again be an official charity group in the 2019 WALT DISNEY WORLD® Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna®. Our team is dedicated to raising money to fund childhood cancer research. Scott Carter was a 13-year old boy who died in December of 1993 after a courageous three-year battle with bone cancer. The Scott Carter Foundation is operated by volunteers, allowing almost all money raised to go toward funding research projects.
Scott believed that if enough time, energy and money were devoted to children’s cancer research, a cure could be found. The Scott Carter Foundation was formed to raise money to further Scott’s dream of finding that cure! During the duration of his illness, Scott put together a remarkable collection of sport and celebrity memorabilia, which he called “Scott Carter’s Heroes”. His dream was to display the collection for the enjoyment of the public and to raise money for childhood cancer research. The collection contains over 300 items and a large portion of the collection is on display at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex! All our runners have the opportunity to visit Scott’s collection when attending the RUNDisney Health & Fitness Expo for packet pickup!
The foundation has funded more than nine two-year research fellowships at institutions including M.D. Anderson, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Texas Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Denver, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Duke University Medical Center and Duke University Children’s Hospital.
To register, please review the following information and complete the registration form. Registration fees are paid up front and do not count toward the $600 minimum fundraising commitment. To participate on our team, we ask that you meet the $600 minimum fundraising commitment by December 1, 2018. runDisney requires all runners to purchase a minimum of two nights at a Disney resort and a minimum 2 day base park ticket. We are partnering with Woodbrey Family Travel for hotel and park ticket reservations. All runners must make their reservation within two weeks of paying for their entry fees. If the reservation is not booked within 2 weeks, the runner forfeits their entry fee and spot on the team. The final step is to complete runDisney’s registration form. runDisney is currently updating their registration experience and will update us on their timeline in June! The Scott Carter Foundation will send this special link to the runner after Woodbrey Family Travel has confirmed that hotel and park tickets have been purchased. Team participation is subject to any and all runDisney participation requirements. Visit the official runDisney site for more information: www.rundisney.com.
