Description

Welcome to The Goode Run!

I am raising money to help support my friend, Katie Goode. She has stage 4 breast cancer and, as you can imagine, the cost of treatment is adding up.

Here's a little about my friend Katie. Katie was born in England and moved to Illinois when she was 6-years-old and then California at 14. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, specializing in treating trauma survivors, and a Kundalini yoga instructor. She also fosters at-risk dogs from shelters and helps find forever homes for them. Her heart is huge and her smile is infectious. Katie and I laugh so much! Her sense of humor is weird and amazing and I love her so much! She's a shy introvert but once she warms up, she's hysterical. If you knew her, you'd know why I absolutely had to do something to help her out.

Katie was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in September of 2015 while we were working together at an eating disorder treatment program. It was a challenge to come to work each day and provide care and support to clients struggling with their own health issues but Katie did it with a smile each day. As I went off for maternity leave, she went on to do chemotherapy. Her journey to a cancer-free life continues.

From Katie:

I found out that my cancer has spread again and I need additional treatment. The options my oncologist offered have too many side effects which will greatly reduce my quality of life and, when I was on the same medication before the cancer continued to grow, so I’m looking at alternative treatments which won’t be covered by insurance. I’ve been supporting myself financially throughout this process, but I’m not able to work full time so I can’t pay for additional treatment on my own. I switched to a whole food plant based diet and supplements after the cancer regrew and spread in August 2016 and it kept things stable until now so I know alternative treatments make a difference, but I need to step things up.

Yoga and what I've learned as a therapist have helped me to stay positive on this journey and I've also talked to a lot of people with cancer to try to help them do the same (but also to know that it's ok to have meltdowns too).

Thankyou again, from the bottom of my heart for participating in this effort to support my friend in her battle against cancer and the freedom to keep on living, loving, and laughing!
