NTIS Triathlon Academy Camp - Overview

The Triathlon NT Academy camps are 4 day live in camps. We endeavor to provide opportunities for all athletes to develop as young adults with the development of the athlete's social and emotional qualities (confidence and resilience) being at the forefront of the camps desired outcomes. The sports specific content has a focus on physical development and mastery in sports skills. The strategy to transfer the camp outcomes to the daily training environment and everyday life involves parent and coach education, and the NTIS provides an enormous amount of support to assist with this. It is important for athletes attending the camp to understand that the coaches attend the camp learn about coaching by coaching. They assist with providing the opportunities for the athletes to develop as outlined above. They are not there to pick up scattered clothing, or supervise the washing of dishes, etc.  The basic life skills of cooking, washing up, wiping down benches, cleaning floors, toilets, showers and rooms need to be well developed before coming into camp. Parents, please involve your child/children in these home/life skill duties.

Camp Accommodation

Everyone stays at the Casuarina Surf Club and it is five star accommodation;

  1. 1. There are toilets

2. Showers

3. Ceiling fans

4. Windows

5. Everyone is issued a camp stretcher bed.

Everyone sleeps in open dormitory style accommodation, 20cm apart. Respect and consideration for the person beside you is necessary. Gear has to be confined to the area under each person's stretcher, neat and tidy.

Accomodation is at the Casuarina Surf Life Saving Club.  A stretcher bed and all meals are provided; please advise the Executive Officer via email if your child has any special dietary requirements in order that we can prepare in advance of the camp (eo@nt.triathlon.org.au).  Athletes will need to bring pillow and sleeping bag or sheets and blanket.

If your child is interested in participating in the camp, please note the following and discuss with your children before nominating for the camp: athletes are not permitted to bring iPads or other handheld mobile gaming devices apart from mobile phones into camp. There are no lollies, chocolates, soft drink, fruit juice, cordials or similar whilst on camp. And ........ Bed time at night is usually 8:00 or 8:30 pm and there is at least 9 hours before we wake for the day's activities. Between 12:30 and 3:00 pm each day there is a compulsory 1.5 - 2 hour sleep. If your son/daughter is not interested in embracing the concept of going to bed at 8:00 - 8:30 pm, sleeping till 5:30 - 6:00 am, then sleeping again from 1:00 - 2:30+ pm, then this camp is not for them. Your child will not be able to do the activities planned if they do not get this amout of sleep, so I will have to send them home.
