2018 marks the third Wild2Wild Duathlon Race. This is community organise race with the sole aim of raising funds for a community centre in Burrishoole, Newport. We were delighted with the support last year with competitors entering from all four provinces and travelling far and wide. Here are a few quotes from last year's entrants:
"Really well organised and all organisers, stewards and helpers were extremely helpful and friendly"
"Great course for all abilities. Course neither favours runners or cyclists. Challenging for elite athletes yet manageable for first timers."
"Fantastic everyone received a medal! Great that you gave prizes out to the person who came in the middle and the last person too"
"Marshals were extremely encouraging, great community feel, everyone so friendly!"
"My first duathlon and found it excellent, I'll be back to beat my time next year!"
"Marshals exactly where they should have been. This is often a problem in events, but it was so well operated in this case."
We look forward to welcoming newcomers and elites alike for this stunning route through the wildest part of Ireland! Please register early as we have limited places.
Event details and schedule
So let us introduce you to our course that will take you from the Wild Atlantic way to the Wild Nephin wilderness and back.
Participants must complete a 2.5km run from the historic town of Newport along the Wild Atlantic way, followed by an 11km cycle into the Wild Nephin Wilderness Park. Then it’s a tough hill run on forest trail for 6.5km before cycling back to Newport and finishing off with a 2.5km run into the town.
This course will be the most scenic route that you will come across anywhere in Ireland. The wilderness run will be all on forestry track so as to protect our natural landscape and at the same time bringing you right to the edges of the largest wilderness area. This really is the jewel in Ireland’s crown of adventure locations.
This race is a perfect introduction for those wanting to maintain their fitness on the race calendar between GaelForce and Sea2Summit.
