Does anyone know how to import GPX into Garmin? - James - 21 Mar 2018

Hi All.  This used to be possible but I spent 20 minutes just now trying to export a GPX file from Mapometer and import to Garmin Connect as a course with no luck.

Previously I had used this site to convert the GPX file to something that Garmin would accept but this doesn't seem to work anymore:

Has anyone successfully managed to export routes to Garmin Connect and can you share details here?

Thanks, James.

Many thanks to Matthew who emailed us with a workaround that works by sending the files directly to the Garmin device, not via Garmin Connect:

"1.Map your route and save it

2. Go to view mode like colin told me to

3. Save the file to your desktop or chosen destination

4. Plug in your garmin and open as an external device (removable device like a usb stick)

5. open the garmin file and then new files

6. Drag and drop the gpx file whch you have downloaded from mapometer into the new files folder

7. finished !

Unplug your garmin and check it is there. It should be in the courses folder. I had to rename mine as it went in as “course” but it seems to have worked !"

Can you export a route to TomTom devices?

I'm not sure exactly. Exporting from Mapometer would be the same and I found this:

I've been struggling to do this but have found a method that seems to work. I'm using Garmin Connect for Android and made sure the app was open on my phone.

I used a link from my local bike club to open one of their club run routes in Mapometer on my phone.

I then exported the gpx file from Mapometer (using 'Actions' then 'Export'). I chose to export the route as 'Tracks' and chose the GPX version as GPX 1.1. I then tapped 'Export File'.

I then got a message asking me which app I wanted to use to open the file and chose Garmin Connect (once you've done this once I think it picks Garmin Connect automatically next time).

I selected course type (cycling) when prompted. The course then opened in Garmin Connect. I tapped 'done' and got a message 'saving your course'

I tapped the icon at the top right of the phone screen to transfer the course to my Garmin Edge 1030. In Garmin Connect it appears under courses in the 'Created by You' tab and on the Edge it appears under 'saved courses'.

I'm unable to export a route (GPX or other); under My Routes I can import, delete, but no export? Has this been removed?
